The ProActive Story
The ProActive story began with the vision of a highly customized, active travel company that would do things differently and better than other tour operators. This vision was put into action when co-founders Jeff Davis and Michael Green worked together at the New England Patriots/New England Revolution professional sports organization. Jeff served the Revolution as assistant to the general manager and game operations coordinator, and Michael worked in marketing and sales. Although both were passionate about their careers in sports management, they also shared an enthusiasm for travel, outdoor sports, and experiencing new cultures and ways of life. As a result, they decided that the best way to share this passion with others was to launch ProActive Travel to bring guests a "whole new way to see the world."
Founder/CEO Jeff Davis began his soccer experience as a youth player in Maine. After playing in high school, Jeff accepted a scholarship to play in college at NCAA Division II Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, MD. During his college career, Jeff spent two seasons as a goalkeeper at Columbia Union College, and two seasons in Saint Julien en Genevoise, France with club AS Neydans. During Jeff’s senior year of college, he began refereeing youth and high school soccer games in the Washington DC area and discovered a passion for refereeing that would stay with him for years to come. Jeff has also coached soccer at the high school level, and is an active board member and referee mentor for his local soccer club in Harrisonburg, VA.
Before starting his international travel and soccer tour business, ProActive Travel, Jeff worked in professional soccer for Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon, France as a referee and liaison for UEFA delegates and referees at UEFA Champions League games. In professional soccer in the United States, Jeff served as the assistant to the general manager and game operations director for Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution. Jeff has also run game operations for international friendlies, World Cup Qualifiers, and the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
As a referee, Jeff is a United States Soccer Federation National referee, and actively referees various levels of soccer from youth up to college and professional leagues. During Jeff’s referee career, he has had the opportunity to referee professional and international games in both the United States and in France, as well as youth and amateur matches in 10 different countries. In 2010, Jeff was sent to Gabon by the US Department of State as a sports ambassador to represent the United States in conjunction with the 2010 FIFA World Cup. As the world’s game, Jeff sees soccer as a significant conduit in bringing people from various cultures and backgrounds together to find a better understanding of one another.
For Founder/President Michael Green, travel and exploration have always been a vital part of his family's tradition. Michael's grandfather has been organizing trips and vacations to over 50 countries worldwide for friends and colleagues for decades. Inspired by Michael's grandfather and his love of travel, Michael's family toured extensively throughout the United States and abroad during Michael's childhood.
By the age of 16, Michael had traveled to nearly every state in the continental US and was looking for new horizons. This desire to explore the unknown has taken him extensively throughout Europe, Africa, and North America. Michael holds a BS in Business degree from the University of New Hampshire and has also worked in the sales, marketing, and financial investments industries. Now serving as ProActive Travel's President, Michael spends most of his time in Europe and enjoys sharing his passions and experiences with others. In his spare time, Michael enjoys playing soccer and basketball, coaching youth soccer, and volunteering at his local church.
